Okay something needs to be addressed regarding #NoComradeLeftBehind #NoComradesUnder1k. Many of us involved in this community organization are disabled, neuro divergent, and are living through a giant pandemic that’s killing thousands of people. Especially in the U.S.
We are ALL under a ton of stress especially those of us (including me) that are mentally/physically disabled or both. Being on Twitter/tweeting constantly is very exhausting and over stimulating. I personally get severe anxiety just trying to boost/follows quickly or often.
#Disabled #DisabilityTwitter #ChronicallyIll and #Neurodiversity members of twitter are already being largely left out of this community, and now I am seeing MANY others saying they are unfollowing others if they don’t immediately follow back. THIS is ableist.
THIS is why disabled humans largely do not feel welcome by abled society. We may be over stimulated, exhausted, practically living in a clinic and when I’m not I’m too tired to move. Expecting us to keep up with “Comrades” quickly is not taking us into consideration.
I highly suggest everyone abled check out #neisvoid tag and educate yourself on what our universe is like. Unfollowing others because they aren’t keeping up with you is wrong. We have so much more to deal with than rt’s. We are doing our best.
ALSO, so many of you have ableist or problematic things on your feed that make us feel very uncomfortable and we do not owe you a follow back. If you’re not being followed back by disabled people maybe take a look at what you’re posting and your opinions and do a reality check.
I do not owe you a follow if your feed makes me uncomfortable or upset. I am disabled, #nonbinary, #Queer and a health care activist. If your feed is against any of those things, or you’re using your abled voice to speak on our behalf, I don’t owe you a follow.
#ComradesUnder1k has shown consistently that my fellow disabled #comrades are not being followed and supported nearly as much as abled people and this needs to change.
We are tired, over stimulated, in #chronicpain, stressed out, and struggling through an extremely rough isolating time. If you do not make us feel welcome, If you aren’t taking the pandemic seriously and are not isolating, if you are seeing your friends (mostly in the U.S)..
If you aren’t taking the virus seriously and making sure you aren’t spreading it so people like me don’t die from it, when disabled people often get much worse health care than abled people, if you’re not listening to us when we are begging you not to spread the virus anymore,
If you think it’s a “joke” or go hang out with your buddies anyways, if you don’t “care if you die” and ignore the fact that we fight EVERY damn day not to,
If you are making anti mask commentary, If you’re not speaking up against #DisabilityRights, and if you make us feel like we are having to deal with another #abled person making us feel like our voice is annoying, we do not owe you a follow.
If anyone would like to see the other side of the coin, check out #DisabilityTwitter #NEISVoid #disabilityawareness #DisabilityRights.
One last thing, if you consider yourself “far left” and don’t advocate for disability rights, you’re not far left. You’re not socialist. You’re not for everything our true comrades are actually for.
Stop expecting disabled people to want to listen to your voice when you talk over ours. I follow back everyone who uses their platform for raising awareness that@includes people like me. Not those who talk about everything but.
I will now be very selective over who gets my follow after seeing SO much problematic posts on my feed. You get my follow if you let my voice be heard. Not if you think your abled opinion on health care is more important than mine. #DisabilityVoicesMatter
