"Tucker Carlson is painting a ridiculous portrait of Cancel Culture" is true and easily provable. "Cancel Culture doesn't exist" is such a clear, obvious and pointless lie that I immediately suspect the motives of anyone who says it. We're in a minefield of ravenous mobs.
The platform incentivizes pile-ons. Everyone knows this. Rage mobs always, 100% of the time, either exaggerate or oversimplify their accusations in order to maximize outrage and engagement. Everyone knows this. Innocent people routinely get destroyed. Everyone knows this.
To hold up examples of wealthy right-wing pundits using Cancel Culture to sell books, and then to claim there are no real victims, is incredibly dishonest. You can't have missed the other victims. You KNOW this is a thing. You have to. You have to.
"But (insert target) still has a job and income, therefore they weren't canceled!" is such an evil, disgusting lie. That's what the Gamergaters said about their victims and our response was that mass online harassment is literally a form of terrorism and psychological torture.
Cruelty is more addictive than Heroin. Normal people need an excuse to indulge, cancel campaigns give it to them. The platforms award currency (likes/follows/validation) to those who join in. The more cruel, the more cartoonish the portrait painted of the enemy, the more you get.
This is not driven by well-meaning activists. It's driven by people who come on here for their cruelty fix and platforms who've figured out that rage mobs = ad $$$. I'm sorry right wingers have poisoned the well on "Cancel Culture" but only a liar would deny its existence.
