Former Instacart shopper here: they pay poverty wages and you all still expect some sort of luxury service. Shoppers get harangued about avocado freshness by the most entitled people alive, which tanks their rating, and means making even less money. It's like living in hell.
At that same time, I drove rideshare and it's the same deal. A lot of attention goes to the CEOs who make these awful companies what they are but not enough is paid to how the average person throws these workers under the bus. Everyone is fine with the shit they don't have to see
Low-level office people treat you like their private driver, middle class couples treat you like their personal shopper, they're all okay with treating workers like shit as long as it feeds into the fantasy that they're wealthy/successful enough to have things done for them.
The fact of the matter is that none of you are paying these people nearly enough to complain about what shows up at your door. If you've got a problem with the quality of service, take it to the company. Make them pay their employees more and maybe you'll get that perfect avocado
I was lucky enough to be able to pivot from car gigs to temp gigs, I went from poverty wages to just-above-minimum wage and it still sucked but at least I didn't have an income reliant on a bunch of dweebs cosplaying as rich people. So many people don't get that opportunity.
For every person like me that has the privilege to do something other than gig economy jobs when they're hard up for money, there are so many others without options. And if you think your job is safe from the gig economy model of exploitation, you're wrong
