i think very regularly about how so much of bertie's life is genuinely loving his friends and feeling a huge amount of loyalty to both his friends and his family despite how poorly they treat him

he just wants to live in peace. that's ALL he wants.

and i think constantly about how much effort bertie puts into trying to make sure jeeves is happy even when he isn't and knows he won't be - all his holidays are organised with jeeves in mind, he entertains himself so that jeeves can fish in peace, etc

idk i just think about them literally upping sticks and moving some day.

like jeeves who's been making investments somewhere in his own name, nothing to do with bertie, and like. the idea of bertie reading the paper some time like

oh, they want a new columnist for this english magazine in california or somewhere, and is like, wouldn't that be marvelous, jeeves, if we could totter off and i could write and be far away from aunts and what have you?

and jeeves goes. yes, sir.

and bertie who turns the page and jeeves is hovering right beside him like, "you aren't going to take down the details, sir?"

"oh, we'd never be able to, jeeves - even if they accepted me, i couldn't commit to a proper job, you know. i'd not be left in peace."

"you would if no one could find us, sir. you do enjoy your tales of espionage. what harm would be in utilising a nom-de-plume for this purpose?"

gently turning the page back, and bertie staring at it, and then looking up at jeeves, leaning in, his cheek on jeeves' thigh

and just. doing it. like,,,,,

the sheer idea of bertie using a fake name, bertie and jeeves living together, and having like. a PO box somewhere else entirely and ignoring all the demands for where he is, and bertie feels guilty bc he's being so Irresponsible and Disloyal

but it's just. peace and contentment and ridiculous hijinks where no one actively tries to ruin his life
