Trans people grind out jobs for years that suck shit to get benefits that will cover these surgeries. Then the surgeries fall through, because the insurance industry doesn't take our lives seriously and is designed to deny. Times are tough but this is vital medicine.

I don't know if cis people appreciate how much this is about personal safety. Being visibly trans invites danger, and the subtle cues of transness- things you don't even consciously pick up on- are often all it takes to clock someone. Liking who you see in the mirror is secondary

secondly, its the most liberating feeling i've ever experienced to undo damage done by an unwanted puberty, during which every cell in your brain is screaming something's wrong. i cant think of a comparable experience in my life. it is a unique freedom everyone should get to have
