[TW: eating disorder, disordered eating]

So the last time I spoke to my psychologist he asked if I was eating regularly & I said I was trying to make sure I ate something at least twice a day and he was like "well you do know sometimes trying gives us permission to fail"

So I was like "well, as long as I'm eating I don't think I'm failing" and he was like "that depends on what you're eating of course; sometimes eating the wrong thing is worse than not eating at all."

I almost screamed

I'm an old hand at dealing w/bad mental health professionals and I'd already decided to not take anything this man said seriously but like.....what he said to me could very well have caused a severe relapse

When it comes to recovery please remember perfect is the enemy of good. Regardless of what dinguses like this psychologist say EATING SOMETHING IS ALWAYS BETTER THAN EATING NOTHING

I just....this dude obviously is seeing plenty of other patients and if any of them are dealing w/disordered eating he could do so much serious harm and it ENRAGES me because HE SHOULD KNOW BETTER

EDs KILL PEOPLE.

Not eating, binging, purging, whatever--IT KILLS PEOPLE.

And ""professionals"" like this guy legit HELP EDs KILL PEOPLE

I am 35 years old and I have, in one form or another, severely restricted my eating since I was like 10. By all rights I shouldn't be here but I am because when I was able, I forced myself to eat SOMETHING, ANYTHING.

And it kept me alive

And if you're struggling please don't let anyone convince you that recovery means perfection.

It doesn't. Recovery means whatever you need it to mean to KEEP BEING ALIVE.

You're doing amazing. Don't let anyone tell you different <3
