5 FASTING MYTHS THAT YOU NEED TO IGNORE

//Thread//
1- Fasting makes you lose muscle

By believing this you accept your body is a fool.

You need to know that muscle tissue is the last thing your body uses to create energy.

Fasting even allows you to preserve more muscle mass.

Because...
Your growth hormone increases during the fast.

It allows you to protect your muscles when there is no food.

And ketones have an anti-catabolic effect on your muscles.

So, the more you become fat-adapted (fast) the better for your muscle.
2- Your brain needs glucose to function

Another ridiculous argument to just talk down on fasting.

First of all, your brain is able to use ketones and a couple of different molecules as fuel.

It can fulfill its energy need by up to %75 through using ketones.

But...
Yeah, it still needs glucose to survive, that's true.

However, you don't need to consume glucose to fulfill that need.

Because your body is able to produce glucose from different molecules like lactate, glycerol,...

Google "gluconeogenesis" to learn more.
3- Fasting causes your blood sugar to drop dangerously

You should know that your body is not a basic machine.

It would be so stupid for it to leave the control of your blood sugar to your food intake.

When you fast, your blood sugar cannot drop to dangerous levels

...
Because there are counter-regulatory hormones that you produce when there is no food to keep your blood sugar in check.

The only exception for this is that if you take diabetes medications when you fast, your blood sugar will drop dangerously.

...
You need to adjust your medication with the help of your physician if you are diabetic.

Type 2 diabetes can be reversed if you are willing to change your eating habits and lifestyle.
4-Fasting makes you hungry

Fasting does not make you hungry.

On the contrary, it's the best way to reduce your hunger.

Because it reduces the hunger hormone "leptin" significantly.

But...
Due to low insulin, you will expel more water during the fast, therefore, more electrolytes like sodium.

So, lack of sodium can cause hunger and cravings.

But the solution is simple.

Put a pinch of rock salt on your mouth and it will go away.
5-Fasting slows down your metabolism

When you fast, your body doesn't go into starvation mode and shut down your metabolism.

It produces adrenalin and noradrenalin to keep your metabolism high.

In fact, it even increases your metabolism.

However...
Fasting can slow down your metabolism only if you turn it into continuous calorie restriction.

That's why I don't recommend fasting every day.

Also, extended fasts (72 h+) can slow down your metabolism.

72 hours is the sweet spot.
