This week's episode is now LIVE ( http://bit.ly/37ehJxM ) and is the first of many future episodes that will inevitably talk about #AcademicMentalHealth -- shout out to @KarenTang_ for being my guest for this first one!

Here's a 🧵thread🧵on resources mentioned in this episode:
@BlackInMH is a #BlackInX movement/week led by Black students/researchers/therapists/faculty/etc in the area of mental health -- they had their week on Twitter a few weeks ago and you can see that and more here: https://linktr.ee/blackinmh
@blkingradschool is a fellow podcaster who encourages and inspires POC in grad school -- she is an excellent resource for any student of color wanting to feel more understood and supported. You can find out more about her and her podcast here: https://www.blkingradschool.com/links
@DragonflyMH is a non-profit dedicated to #AcademicMentalHealth & @PhD_Balance is an AMAZING, inclusive space for #AcademicMentalHealth conversations, founded by @SusannaLHarris, that exists on Twitter and beyond: https://linktr.ee/PhD_Balance
Throughout the episode, @KarenTang_ and I reference Self-Compassion and how important it is to, not only treat ourselves as kindly as we might treat a friend, but to truly develop a love for ourselves. You can find resources on how to do this --> here: https://self-compassion.org
Grad school is HARD. & it was hard before the pandemic. Many students are struggling more than normal. Many institutions are not providing students the support they need ...whether that be #disability resources, #diversity resources and support, or general #mentalhealth access.
If you are someone who is really struggling or really distressed and having thoughts of suicide, I urge you to call the following numbers:

US Suicide Prevention Hotline: 800-273-8255

Canada Suicide Prevention Lifeline: 1-833-456-4566

UK Samaritans Hotline: 116 123
Takeaways from @KarenTang_ and I in this episode:

Taking care of yourself is an investment in you. You deserve to feel well. Reach out to those who love you for support. You are not alone. You are strong. We can and will all get through this together.
I hope you all enjoy today's episode and stay tuned for future episodes about #MentalHealth in the next few months with @realKatrinaD, @jacasiegel, and @PsiChiJor.
