As a @uniofleicester employee not in one of the areas it has earmarked for "disinvestment", I dispute the suggestion by @NCanagarajah that I'm not "directly affected" by these plans. I am "directly affected" in myriad ways. 1/ https://twitter.com/leicesterucu/status/1317133611733307393
As a researcher, I have close collaborative links & ongoing projects with @uniofleicester academics in departments not my own & rely on professional services staff across the university for research infrasture & support. 2/
As a teacher, I have developed cross-disciplinary modules & courses with staff in "directly affected" departments that have been amongst the most rewarding experiences of my career @uniofleicester 3/
As a human being, this year I have already lost colleagues & friends who have made working @uniofleicester a truly wonderful experience to redundancy & the thought of losing more in the near future fills me with sadness 4/
As a @leicesterucu officer (an elected but voluntary role I do in my spare time) I will do everything I can to support colleagues in "directly affected" areas of @uniofleicester 5/
I have no doubt all of this will "directly affect" my capacity to continue to do "innovative teaching and pioneering research" @NCanagarajah, because how could it not? 6/
Oh, and did I mention @NCanagarajah how so very not a "perfect moment" a rapidly worsening global pandemic is to effect further "strategic" restructuring at a university where we only finished years-long "institutional transformation" approximately five minutes ago? 7/end
I do vividly remember trying to explain to @NCanagarajah the staff view on job insecurity, workload & other issues during winter 2019 @ucu strikes, when he said he was too new to really know what to do. I guess we have a different problem now?
