The blender on the “bar” actually has a spooky alien monster friend who pops out, but you have to push the button to make it go. I feel like this is a thing you could rig up to do remotely for a little scare, but I have not the skills.

UPDATE a person with a small baby in a stroller just came by and spent a solid four minutes explaining the scene to the baby, who absolutely was not old enough to comprehend what is going on, it was adorable

UPDATE another neighbor came by to show the yard to their child and as they were walking back home, the child waved to the shark and skeletons and said "BYE BYE" and it was most precious

UPDATE someone just pulled up in a minivan and, after sitting at the curb for a couple of minutes, remotely and dramatically opened the back door so that a toddler in a car seat could get a good long look at the yard

UPDATE we are building a pulley system so that our skeleton parrot can “fly” out to the sidewalk and deliver candy to the children from a safe social distance

UPDATE: One of the neighborhood children who enjoys our yard has returned, this time my husband reports that the wee one blew a kiss to the murder shark as they were lead away by their grown-up

UPDATE this afternoon we had a full family parade -- parents, grandparents, and two kiddos in a wagon -- cruise by to see the yard

I am disappointed that the Austin Chronicle did not think our yard was fun enough to include in their slideshow but I do need to know where this skeleton on a jet ski is??? because I feel like these might be my people??? Anyone seen this around town???? https://bit.ly/3oGBgx8
