I’ve been discussing this with friends a lot lately, but it’s so hard to convince others to try to give joseimuke shows, especially any show with a lot of boys in it that isn’t shonen, a chance. I know because I would’ve been impossible to convince a couple years ago. ⬇️⬇️
Of course, this goes for male idol shows. I’m still very hit or miss with them, but working on i7 obviously very unexpectedly gave my one of my favorite franchises of all time. But I know how crazy I sound when telling people they should check it out because... ⬇️⬇️
...instant apprehension towards male idol shows. I get it. Some are genuinely silly. But so are a lot of other anime. But I know a lot of people who will watch girl idol shows without a second thought. So I wonder why there’s an instant dislike towards male idol shows/joseimuke⬇️
My initial dislike of them is just because I worked on some that I considered boring or bad. But at least I had watched some? But it’s not just guys that are hard to convince when it comes to joseimuke... there just seems to be a general apprehension. ⬇️⬇️
I wonder if there’s any way to change that. The ways I’ve seen that worked were either people watching with friends who recommended the show (that’s how I got a couple of friends to watch and fall in love with i7 too) or having to watch them for some reason. ⬇️⬇️
I know we enthusiastically want to tell everyone how great the characters, story, art, etc is in i7 but most people will sadly probably just see that as a biased fan going on about something they like. Tl;dr what do you think is a good way to change this apprehensive mindset?
I will add that joseimuke, male idols, etc franchises are lucky to have the fans that they do though. They have some of the most supportive fans in the world. I have so many Mutuals that fly to Japan for concerts, spend so much $$ on Japanese blu-rays and other merch.
