Introduced **What How Why** to students yesterday.

A short THREAD on exactly how I did it.

1/
Started by explaining that whether Y7 or A Level or even university WHW is a way to frame how we think/write/read about literature.

I also explained they probably already do it in some form but I want to make this process explicit and self-conscious.

/2
I then explained each one in turn, starting with WHAT

/3
Then HOW

/4
Then WHY

I made the same point that these way remain across different ages but what will change is the level of sophistical we bring to the text

/5
I then summarised this process in the simplest way I could using this set of prompts

/6
Finally I explained this process could be applied to the smallest part of a text (a word, an imagine, a line) to the largest (the entire text)

/7
I then took a single line of poetry and live modelled exactly how to use WHW to frame my written response, asking questions along the way

/8
And at the end of the lesson we had enough time for them to have a go with a separate line of poetry, using my model as a prompt.
