While I’m making everyone depressed about Hillsborough, the British govt made the decision to lie about the 173 people killed in the Bethnal Green Tube Disaster. Survivors were told never to speak of it.

It would have been Very Politically Unpopular to announce that the largest single loss of civilian life in WWII was bc some FOOLS decided to test new rockets extremely close to the city, two days after heavy bombing raids, causing people to die in a crowd crush for shelter.

A shelter which could only be reached by a stairwell which they had been repeatedly told was too steep, slippery, and had no crush barricades: vital for stopping the domino effect of a staircase disaster like we saw at Ibrox Stadium in 1971.

In all cases, people were blamed for their own deaths, hushed up if they survived, and then got meaningless apologies and a wreath several decades later.
