5) Express fanciful/delusional hopes for the future: “Maybe if Sarah gets that promotion, she won’t be so hateful”

6) Strenuously avoid conversation about whatever is broken

7) Immerse themselves in gossip and small talk

8) Rationalize, rationalize, rationalize

9) Be impatient with you for speaking your truth, even to them

10) Stop talking to you after you give notice

11) Contact you within four weeks of your arrival at a new job, asking you to help them get hired there too
