Every time I do a #SafeFemoral, I try to incorporate iterative things I have learned. It’s always good to also pick the brains of your peers to learn. #UltrasoundAccess for all of accesses. Would appreciate thoughts on how to improve! Step 1 - fluoro femoral. #JointCathConference
Step 2 - #UltrasoundAccess to identify common femoral and calcification (not shown) . Be above the femoral bifurcation. Insert micro puncture needle to access but not puncture the artery. Quick fluoro check to make sure puncture will be in #SafeZone. (Shown) #JointCathConference
Step 3 - cautiously insert guidewire. #FluoroTheWire as it courses the artery. Observe its behavior and incorporate this into what sheath you should use for the procedure you need. I have started taking a quick #FluoroStore to show angle of needle and wire. #JointCathConference
Step 4 - #AccessAngio through micro access. tip - keep guidewire in and attach #CoPilot and inject. Protects by injecting into vessel and not the wall! #PreventDissection Remember to angle to show SFA and profunda. #JointCathConference
Step 5 - tackle the task at hand! In this case a complicated restenosis of a mixed plaque of popliteal artery. Having had good access - you have piece of mind in proceeding with high quality intervention. #PeripheralIntervention #JointCathConference
Step 6 - post intervention moment of #mindfulness - take a moment to appreciate the yrs of training &skill development that it takes to make a profound change in someone’s life. No two procedures are the same. No two people are the same. Learn from each case! #JointCathConference
