Ok I think this is a really important point. I think a few arguments around the challenge issue are as follows... https://twitter.com/joshua_jfrancis/status/1308507690495356931
1) They argue in the book that we get the wrong end of the stick with this - that actually, especially in high school, we think the students can do more than they actually can with writing. Asking students to do more isn’t asking them to do better.
2) The challenge of the sentence level activities is determined by the content of the curriculum. The activities are as applicable at A-level as they are with year 7 bottom set, assuming curriculum expectations are adjusted appropriately.
3) the book also clearly builds progression in writing over time, moving from sentence level to paragraph level and then ‘compositions’ after that.
4) the activities get them thinking about the content of the curriculum in different and interesting ways - rather than ‘how do I start’. This is the beautiful simplicity of because but so. If you get them thinking hard about the content hopefully they’ll remember more of it.
In terms of incorporating activities - happy to share some of my resources with you if you share an email address so you can see how I’ve done it. @MrThorntonTeach @MrsBallAP also good sources of help here.
@JudithCHochman @ToniAnnVroom @MsJasmineMN May able to develop some of my points in regards to your tweet further and possible push back from your colleagues.
You can follow @HistoryKss.
