it's like i can see into the goddamn future

i know exactly how the next few months are gonna play out and i'm powerless to do anything about it

trump will nominate amy coney barrett to fill ginsburg's vacant scotus seat

the republicans, being lying hypocrites, will go forward with hearings

mcconnell, being the world's biggest lying hypocrite, will make sure the hearings go swiftly, but not so swiftly that there'll be a vote before election day, to ensure that as few gop senators as possible face consequences for it at the polls

election day happens

despite the fact that millions of citizens (especially democrats) are voting by mail due to the pandemic, fox news and maybe one or two other news networks will call the election prematurely for trump

within a week the non-fox news networks report that with more mail-in ballots arriving, a few states have flipped to biden

enough to put biden just over 270

trump dismisses this as fake news and voter fraud and challenges the results

meanwhile, no more than a couple weeks after election day, the senate votes on barrett

the few republican senators who we thought MIGHT still have a soul and a spine disappoint us once again

maybe murkowski and/or collins vote present, but it's not nearly enough

barrett is confirmed and takes the seat

shortly after this happens, biden v trump makes it all the way to the supreme court

breyer, kagan, sotomayor and MAYBE roberts vote for biden

alito, thomas, gorsuch, kavanaugh and barrett vote for trump

thanks to republican hypocrisy and outright fraud, trump steals the election and gets his second term

at best, MAYBE we flip the senate and keep the house, but who cares, trump bypasses congress with executive orders anyway

the country and the world continue to deteriorate

i hope i'm wrong

i want absolutely nothing more than to be wrong

i want to live in a universe where something, anything, still actually matters

there's only two things we the people can possibly do to prove me wrong

call your fucking senators, maybe miraculously they'll learn the concept of shame

either vote as early as humanly possible by dropping your ballot off at an official dropbox (NOT the mail) or put on a mask and brave the lines to vote in person on election day

the more states trump loses on election night, the harder it will be to justify contesting the results
