1 - Many of you know I don't look to Marketing / Analytics / Retail for inspiration ... there's so little of it there.

Instead I look to the world of sports. And in the past day, my goodness, has there been some "content" to consider.
3 - Read the darn article.

The guy has his odd style of analytics that nobody understands (hint - that's a competitive advantage ... analytics in a box like Google Analytics don't set you apart from the competition).
4 - He also hires a COACH and a STATISTICIAN ... and they work together on game plans.

Ponder that one for a moment, ok?
5 - Are you an Executive? Do you have a COACH and a STATISTICIAN working together to help you be more effective?

Or do you just tell your analyst how you want a pivot table to look?

Yeah, think about that one for a moment, ok?
6 - Next, the Arizona Cardinals are 2-0 (and that's no guarantee that things will turn out good) ... but pundits did not like the hiring of the coach last year and his allegedly fraudulent Air Raid college-style offense: https://ftw.usatoday.com/2019/08/rex-ryan-kliff-kingsbury-offense-cardinals
7 - This would be similar to "omnichannel experts" telling you they don't like it when innovative companies do things that go against the grain.

And yet, give the coach a few weapons and all of a sudden wins are starting to happen.
8 - How about the Las Vegas Aces in the WNBA?

Analytics shoved the 3 points shot down our throats for a decade ... and now the Aces are winning with a variant strategy focusing on high-percentage two point shots. https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/the-aces-dont-need-threes-to-win/
9 - The math works.

They advance the ball quickly without an outlet pass to point guard, creating fast break opportunities.

A 65% chance of scoring 2 points on a 2 point shot > a 40% chance of scoring 3 points on a 3 point shot, yielding up to 10 more points per 100 possessions
10 - Last November, the Pickleball world was rocked when the Womens Champions were a 40ish year old Mom and her ... are you ready for this ... her 12 year old daughter.

Yeah, a 12 year old.
11 - This team played a highly aggressive, assertive, powerful, fast paced form of the game seldom seen at a high level.

They basically reinvented the game, bewildering the experts. And they won!
12 - Interestingly, I watched an interview last week, and these two want to play faster, more powerfully, and more offensively in the future, as if that were even possible!
13 - In sports, everywhere you look you see a combination of COACHING + ANALYTICS + PERFORMANCE reinventing "how" things are done.

It almost seems like that might be a role a really seasoned Consultant might be able to fill for your company ...

... hmmmmm.
