I agree with this. The most aggressive cancer on the American body politic is not and will not be the Supreme Court, which is largely reactive by nature. It's the Presidency, vested as it is with so much power, and under the control current of the malignant Donald Trump. https://twitter.com/ContentedIndie/status/1307855457713827841
But taking the Senate will be a close second because Mitch McConnell has been a festering wound for even longer. If a conservative SCOTUS forces some kind of statutory change to the ACA or other law, a Dem House and Senate can fix it. Maybe change the filibuster to all-talking.
The Trump Presidency showed how much power the Presidency has in his own pocket, however. He built off decades of expanded Executive Authority. A Biden Presidency can reset much of the horrific ICE policy and foreign relations overnight, with or without the Senate.
A Dem Senate can improve on the ACA and reset economic policy for a post-pandemic world. It can pass a host of laws under reconciliation even if they don't neuter the filibuster. And possibly admit PR to statehood.
But let's be honest. Defeating Donald Trump will mean never having to hear that asshole again ooze his narcissistic grievances on social media. He can take over the ONAN TV network and spew his conspiratorial seed to his Q-Anon fanboys. We'll ignore him and get on with our lives.
His impact on the nation has been grotesque beyond the merely political. In cultural and even psychological terms, Trump has abused the American people for four years. He has done nothing but pick away at every scab in our cultural fabric. And he does it every damn day.
If we rid ourselves of this depraved soul-sucking reprobate, we will have instantly Made American...Sane...Again. At least a little bit. Exhaling would be nice for once.
