Prior to 2020 I told my catalog clients to be wary of what the paper industry told them, and for good reason.

I never imagined I'd have to tell them to potentially be wary of anything the USPS told them.

The paper stuff always had a stink associated with it. At Nordstrom, I authored a plan to trim catalog circulation by 30%ish.

The paper rep met with our catalog production team, then instructed the CPT lead to tell me this ...
... the Catalog Production Team Lead sends me an email and says the following:

"After conferring with our paper rep, we decided we are not implementing your plan."
To which I responded:

"Since I own the catalog plan, I will find a different paper brand and I will look to outsource catalog production to an external team."

Not surprisingly, both parties "onboarded" to my plan within minutes.

You can't let vendors run the show.
Let me repeat that statement.

"You can't let vendors run the show".

Across my industry, vendors and third parties are running the show. We wonder why my industry is dying?
