Whenever someone wants to talk shit about whey protein or protein in general, this particular link is pasted as if it's some strong piece of evidene.
1. This is an ARTICLE
2. There's not a single study cited in the entire article...not expected from Harvard.

1/n
It starts off well with talking about the benefits. Then it proceeds towards a statement made by a "dietician" who speaks of "protein powders" as of its some medicine. It's food FFS, stop asking everyone to take it "only with supervision"
This is pretty much ok. Protein supps are made from rice, soy, egg, pea and more than 90-95% of the times, it is made from whey derived from dairy.

But, it is NOT used as a weight loss supplement FFS...or even muscle building if you think about it!
This is where the shitfest starts.
1. FDA is pretty strict about the contents on the nutrition label. The only way to get away with putting toxic shit in it is by labelling it as "proprietary blend". NEVER EVER but any supps with that label.
2. "There are limited data on the possibile side-effects"

ALL of the data which shows ANY side-effects, is based on ppl with pre-existing kidney/liver issues. Bc unko whole foods se bhi protein kam hi lene bolte hai, whey ka kya lena dena?
Not a single study done on healthy people, have shown ANY side-effects from taking whey. Hell, there's one study done for more than a year, wherein the subjects were given 4.5g/kg protein.

Guess what?
NOTHING HAPPENED AFTER AN ENTIRE YEAR!!!!!
3. "Digestive distress from lactose"
Bc if you're lactose intolerant, any dairy will trigger the symptoms. Oh oh, for those people, whey protein isolate is still easier on the gut, and they can tolerate it pretty well. Nobody's talking about that for some reason.
This is a banger
"It mah be high in added sugars and calories"

Dude, only lean meat like prawns and chicken or egg whites are lower in calories than whey (if at all)

So fuck off with that as an argument!
Also, if it has sugar, then you need to stop buying crap like proteinx and bournvita. Because whey protein supplements are NOT SUPPOSED TO HAVE SUGAR IN THEM. It will always have some artificial sweetener like aspartame or ace-k.
This one toh has literally zero evidence. Herbalife products have shit like that in them, so maybe those doctors were talking about Herbalife when they said whey protein has toxic shit in them.

And if you see, almost every quack article will link everything to cancer. 🤦🏻‍♂️
And here's the ok ok parts.
RDA is 0.8g/kg for sedentary individuals. Which for healthy bodyweight people, will come to around 46 and 56 for females and males respectively.

But but but, RDA for protein has been argued to be lower than optimal.

Ignore this bullshit too.

Unless you have some medical condition which requires you to reduce protein intake, go ahead and have whey protein to fulfill your protein requirements. The only sideffects are that you'll get jacked, stronger, better hair+skin and overall better health
Bookmark this thread. Next time someone throws that Harvard article at you, which I'm pretty sure will happen, throw this thread back at them.

Peace ✌🏻🙂
