Q. It is easy to say “work is broken” but how would you fix it?
A. Abolish employment at will, make forced arbitration illegal, abolish most non-compete clauses & generally shift the balance away from employers calling the shots.
We need some form of UBI. We need to make healthcare available to everyone, whether they are employed or not. We need to recognize the obvious truth that there will never be enough jobs for everyone who wants to work.
We need to explore a federal jobs guarantee that will employ people to do important work when they cannot find a job in the private sector. Our infrastructure is failing. People need homes, care and other kinds of support. Folks need help, and we could pay people to help them.
Large corporations should pay federal taxes. Currently many of them do not. Everyone should be free to join a union. We also need to change our mindset about employment.
Kids are taught all the way through school and college that entrepreneurism is for a lucky few and everyone else has to work for wages. That’s nonsense. Our great grandparents were entrepreneurs and never thought twice about it
We need to teach kids about their career options and encourage their entrepreneurial instincts starting in kindergarten. We need to stop brainwashing kids and adults that big corporations control them
