I& #39;ve been thinking *a lot* about how people with #ChronicIllness are not considered reliable narrators of their own experiences. #neisvoid
It& #39;s why so many of us seek concrete diagnoses of causes, instead of being okay with simply managing symptoms -- even if a concrete diagnosis only leads to symptom management.
Because without that diagnosis code in our charts, we& #39;ll be treated as...clients, instead of partners in our own healthcare. Our lived experiences will continue to be diminished in favor of what fits nicely into a checklist of symptoms.
Are we unreliable narrators? No. Are we frustrated narrators? Probably! Does that undermine our experiences? No. Should we be active participants in our own care? It& #39;s the only way forward. #neisvoid
