I've been thinking *a lot* about how people with #ChronicIllness are not considered reliable narrators of their own experiences. #neisvoid
It's why so many of us seek concrete diagnoses of causes, instead of being okay with simply managing symptoms -- even if a concrete diagnosis only leads to symptom management.
Because without that diagnosis code in our charts, we'll be treated as...clients, instead of partners in our own healthcare. Our lived experiences will continue to be diminished in favor of what fits nicely into a checklist of symptoms.
Are we unreliable narrators? No. Are we frustrated narrators? Probably! Does that undermine our experiences? No. Should we be active participants in our own care? It's the only way forward. #neisvoid
