You know where the 1-10 pain scale comes from?

The Sackler family, the family that owns Purdue Pharma

The company that made Oxycontin into an epidemic addiction that killed 250K people

They popularized the 1-10 scale to give doctors a diagnostic model to prescribe opioids
Company was created by the Sackler brother

Arthur Sackler was a copywriter who become a doctor

had the genius idea to own a drug company, and to market drugs directly to doctors

Doctors he knew are very persuaded by what their fellow doctors think...
He paid for and wrote ads in MEDICAL JOURNALS

Came up with advertisement literature that could be read in doctors offices

You think those "info" drug guides in doctors office are simply for your education?

They are ADVERTISEMENTS
Arthur Sackler spent years getting wealthy from doctor advertisements

"9 out of 10 doctors"
"4 out of 5 doctors"

"90% of physicians agree that..."

he came up with all the shit

He wrote ads for anti-biotics, for Valium, for Librium

His campaigns were massively successful
Sackler's campaigns are what made tranquilizers an epidemic in the 1970s

100 million prescriptions were written for Valium and other downers

They were so overprescribed there was eventually a Congressional hearing on the epidemic (Which no one remembers today of course)
Doctors are drug pushers with white coats and credentials

Sackler made money hand over fist, he drove the rise of Big Pharma and its dominance and control over "medicine" and marketing drugs to the public as the cure alls for every ailment
by the 1960s his "empire" was a legal Mafia operation

-Fund development of new drugs

-Create target market for said drug

-Create ads and marketing for drug

-Profit

Arthur Sackler died in 1987, the company was already worth hundreds of millions

OxyContin was yet to come...
In 1990s, Purde (which is owned by the Sackler family) developed OxyContin

It contains concentrated Oxycodone, an opioid developed by German Scientists in 1916

They had the idea of creating both low and very high dose pills

An ultra potent, ultra addictive painkiller
How to market this?

Believe it or not, at one time there was still resistance from physicians in prescribing painkillers

The Sacklers had to beat this bias, so they conducted focus groups and research and held talks on the "epidemic" of "untreated pain"
They even paid sellout POS doctors like Dr. J. David Haddox to release statements with the American Academy of Pain Medicine on how opioids were NEEDED to treat the supposed pain epidemic

Get this shit: they called doctors that didnt want to prescribe opioids...Opiophobic
Im not remotely joking. Their marketing and propaganda was a well oiled machine

FDA approved OxyContin in 1995

They got the FDA to say that Oxy was SAFER than other painkillers

Because the FDA, like everything else in medicine, is a corrupt fucking racket.
OxyContin was pushed hard by a nationwide marketing campaign

Purdue and the Sacklers wanted it to be prescribed for EVERYTHING

They copied what had worked for Valium in the 1960s

Oxy was for every and any kind of pain, from a bad back to people in Chemo and post surgery
They had a drug rep team that marketed specifically to doctors

The doctors that prescribed the most Oxy got rewarded with dinners, vacations, destination getaways, all expenses paid
Purdue had a entire marketing team and speaking circuit it created of doctors preaching to other doctors to prescribe Oxy

They had thousands of doctors doing this nationwide, for YEARS

Purdue paid money into continuing education, in various professional organizations...
They had a media team that worked around the clock

The result?

Oxycontin made a billion dollars a year by 2000.

The Sackler family became billionaires, many times over
Arthur Sackler started a trend in the 1960s of charitable donations to a nearly infinite list of organizations and causes

Sacklers have buildings, halls, rooms, wings, grants, scholarships named after them

All paid for with legal drug company $$$ from turning people to addicts
