A brief (and incomplete) list of common mistakes golfers make in their training (in my opinion/experience), and what they should focus on instead.

1. Reps generally too high

2. Rest time between sets too short

3. Belief that a hard workout = an effective workout
4. Belief that exercises need to resemble the golf swing to be effective

5. Too much use of unstable surfaces

6. Overemphasis on static stretching and floor-based “core” exercises (e.g. Russian twists)

7. Too much emphasis on aerobic fitness & not enough on power development
Some things to focus on instead.

1. Find a good coach with a solid grasp of strength & conditioning principles

2. Get strong - pick exercise variations you can do well, focus on lower reps, more rest, high quality each rep/set
3. Get powerful - work up to lifting lighter weights with some speed, jump, throw, swing, sprint (safely of course). Intent is key

4. Have a plan for each session. Every exercise should contribute to your goals in a specific way.

5. Address mobility limitations as necessary
6. Judge a session by whether it brings you closer to your goals, NOT by how sweaty or sore it makes you. For example, a power/velocity session is generally most effective when you are fresh and well-rested for each set/rep.

7. Be consistent/patient.
There are many other considerations when training, so find a good coach to help you sort through everything.

This is also not a complete list, but are some of the examples I see most often in the golf world
