How to help someone who is having a panic attack/mental breakdown:
1. Stay with the person and try to distract them (eg. Make them laugh)
2. If you are in a busy environment, move away from the action.
3. Offer medicine if the person usually takes it during an attack.
4. Don’t make assumptions about what the person needs. Ask.
5. Speak to the person in short, simple sentences.
6. Be predictable. Avoid surprises.
7. Help slow the person& #39;s breathing by breathing with him or her or by counting slowly to 10.
8. Dont panic when the person panics
Say things like:
“You can get through this”
“I am proud of you”
“Tell me what you need so I can help you”
