Karens gone wild videos always remind me that I was raised by the overculture to be a Karen, and that there's a Karen inside me too, no matter what I read or how many Black friends I have. The lifelong work is to shrink Karen and feed...Jane. JANE IS THE ONE YOU FEED.
Jane gives the money to Black-led organizations to do anti-racist work, Jane sits with the discomfort we feel talking to our white relatives and says we can do it anyway. Robin is a Jane, meet Robin!
Jane isn't perfect but she knows she gets the blessing of a lifetime to work on it as best she can. Jane listens to BIPOC people to consider how she can be of service. Jane might feel guilty sometimes and then Jane says, "Well that's not helping anybody. I need to do good work!"
Jane fucks up sometimes. Jane works out her feelings with another white person who is also trying to be good in the world. Jane makes a sincere apology to somebody she's harmed and then takes a real step in the world to make it better. A solid Jane move! Find the Jane inside you!
Anyway, go watch this from @sandylocks and @TEDTalks from three years ago. It'll take under 19 minutes of your time. Have a good day!
And wear a friggin mask. Not only will you help protect all others from potentially contracting the virus from you (and remember you may just not have symptoms), know this: COVID-19 is killing Black Americans at a higher rate than it kills anybody else. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/may/20/black-americans-death-rate-covid-19-coronavirus
