#HalifaxTrails Have you been? Learn in this #Thread about
#TaylorsHead Provincial #Park is #Beach, park & #trails to explore. Ocean isn't as warm as @larochecbc expected, but everything else is amazing. #Nature #Hiking β–Ί #WAYCTVβ—„ #NovaScotiaStaycation #NovaScotia πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ #Halifax
There are several parking areas & entrances to boardwalks, beach, picnic area & connecting to #trails:
On this trip, we took the furthest parking area, near the beach, a short walk down a boardwalk to a cove shaped sandy #Beach (wet photos are different day)
Newcombe's Graveyard, est. early 1800s. This graveyard is the oldest existing landmark of Taylor Head. Village was home to about 150 people, the Newcombe and the McCarthy families made up the majority of the area. Buried 2-3 seaman that washed up on the shore in this graveyard.
I've retyped this #Thread three times. Twitter lost it after 10 pages of photos with stories. I may have incorrectly put an S on the end of #TaylorHead trying to recover, I'm taking one of the longest trails, so if you have never been, here's the #hiking adventure you seek.
There isn't really #Cellular service, maybe close to that antenna, but there is service in Sheet Harbour, 11 kms further east, between the two bridges, as well as Gas, Food, Hotels, RCMP, NSLC, don't count on Hospital Emerg, it's usually closed. Wear Good Footwear, rugged #trail
Along the Headland Trail (The longest I think) they run about 3-5-8-12 kms, depending which place you enter the trail. It's a bit of a figure 8 with lots of #nature along the way, keep your camera out, #scenic and #wildlife along the route. #WAYCTV β—„ how you find this stuff
You keep thinking it's around the corner, you just aren't sure how many more corners.. The coves and beaches are full of PhotoOps (Photo Opportunities) You might see a seal, if you're observant. There's a bench here to rest & enjoy the #view. There's a picnic table just 4km more
There's not a lot of boardwalk anywhere along the trail but there was a swampy area like this, not all as sturdy. Some trees block routes after major storms. Wear bug spray, some bushes on the trail brush up to your armpits to get through.,
This #thread isn't as together as it was starting, Twitter waits until I am up to the 10th to lose them all. You are about 3kms in here. http://www.friendsoftaylorhead.com/  I'm just showing you one of my #hiking days, there's lots more, you'll see.. 𝙁𝙀𝙑𝙑𝙀𝙬 π™©π™π™š π™©π™–π™œ, β–Ί #WAYCTVβ—„
It was more of an #adventure, some interesting fauna and forests, shoreline and sea shaped trees on the #shoreline

There's a little island you can almost walk to across that sand bar. You've been seeing it *just around the corner* for the last 8 coves.. Here is is. It's warmer swimming here than the beach at the beginning of the park.
Birds #nesting, or an advertisement for the Alfred Hitchcock movie?. Suddenly the #trail moves out onto the beach (you were never far from it) Hitchcock's Stunt Doubles. and if you packed that lunch.. you're almost at the picnic table
Even without crossing the beach, you sometimes pass a random lobster trap in the woods. This is the Atlantic #Ocean, and it has had a storm or two... you find lobster traps at the top of cliffs. The sea is not always this calm.
Half way along you find out if you are still on the HEADLAND TRAIL. Yup.. almost half-way now.. Anyone tired? Let's continue.... #Beach #Trail #Nature (animals yet to come)
Sometimes you have to decide where the best walking route is. These trails sometimes get blocked after storms.

You'll want to take your own photos, I have the approach, getaway, and whatever caught my eye recorded. I'm trying to get all of #NovaScotia so you know where to visit..
If you live in #Halifax, you probably come here all the time?
It's closer than Cuba, and in your Bubble.
I probably said "It's just around this corner" 40 times.. and still 39 corners to go.. Do you see a seal out there, or a buoy?
Here a trap β™ͺ there a trap, Old Mcdonald fishes out of Ecum Secum now. Rare to see a wooden trap. Used to sell those to tourists on the # 7 highway every summer when I was a kid.
I don't find there is a lot of #Tourist information about Rural Halifax, so I provide my own. The Eastern Shore is part of Halifax all the way to Guysborough County. There are at least 5 provincial parks, at least 4 have ocean beaches. After Lawrencetown of course. COMING SOON?
There's rocks and formations for the young #geologist in all of us, fauna and flora, and fungi for the #naturalists and it's almost lunchtime at the Headland. #naturelovers #NaturePhotography #Nature #Wildlife
#Rocks more than two. They have shapes, sizes, and hide sea life in the pools of water. At *The Blights* area of the cove, you can almost see Mushaboom from here.
#Trees We got pine, we got spruce,
Dead wood, cedar, tamarack.... 🌲🌳
β™ͺ Mm, mm, mm, mm, mm, I love this park..

LUNCHTIME, what did you bring? Take it all back out with you please.. Headland half-way mark on the trail, now we are on the return, more beach walking, and sun in our eyes.. It did get dark on us before we got back. Park gate closes at dusk.. Hmmm.. Eat faster! #picnic
You can see @Fyrman162 out there, on a clear day..
Up to this point, I've already seen Rabbits, squirrels and a seal I think, but there's more wildlife to come. I'll show you, please standby... It takes 90 minutes to get here from the city, and 90 minutes back, plus 4-6 hr trail
Have you ever been #beachcombing and forgotten how far you walked? After an hour, it looks like you are in the same spot if you look back. The beach rock is hard on the ankles, and it's not Peggys Cove but stay off black rocks anyway, they are slippery.
I used to have a Visual storyteller blog on Google Plus, where this stuff was curated and linked in a better fashion, maybe you don't want to drive back to the city tonight? 11kms to Sheet Harbour (call ahead) Fairwinds #Motel & #Restaurant (902) 885-2502
I said there would be #animals? Porcupines are large rodents with coats of sharp spines, or quills, that protect them against predators. When they have young, they may try to bite you also. #EyeNose #nature There were several, if you watched the trees above you, one on the ground
Don't act like you never saw a duck in a tree before?
Well, it's not a duck (I don't think) but it's not normally a tree-hugger. I said that sun was going to be in my eyes. Evening going in clockwise direction on trail, this is the return in the setting sun. AND YES, it got dark!
And another hour had passed... β™ͺ Dum Dum... We didn't think it would take this long, or we might have brought a flashlight or a change of socks.. Still a lot more to see yet..
In and out, between trees and between rocks. Sometimes you step off the path for a better footing. There's a lot of fresh air here, you can smell the marshes, ferns, and seaweed as you go by. (not all smelled fantastic πŸ˜‚ )
What day were you heading down east to #hike the #trails of #TaylorHead Provincial Park? The weather is different than the city, you are more northerly and along the water it can be cold. Prepare for any changes, you came a long way, make this as long a visit as you can spare.
Don't let this boardwalk fool you. You aren't near back to your car yet. And it's getting dark... Did you pack a flashlight? Did you check for #cellular signals? On the point you can probably check your tweets... if you have data plan.
Looking across that field, if you stand still, you'll probably see the deer looking at you, pointing, and laughing.> #LOL thinking you are spending the night here.. Wonder if the caretaker closed the gate? Dusk, that's when the park closes..
Then you cross over on another trail towards the parking lot.. This is reassuring, but it's much darker on the trail, under the trees, than along the beach. I think I have a few more photos before dark?
2.2 kms, light over the ocean, dark in the trees. Remember those bushes and branches you have to squeeze through? Every branch that moves scares some critter away and scares you not knowing what critter it was...
Minutes of light over the #ocean for a few last minute #dusk photos. The water was still and #scenic. It is not always this nice and still. And then we turn back into the darkness of the trail... <insert eerie music>
All the photos are so nice, this #thread should go on forever, but I only *sampled* what we saw along the way, you'll have to see for yourself? Where's that video I had saved for last? #NSR (Nova Scotia Rasta) and #WAYCTV (When Are You Coming To Visit) are my Hashtags for all NS
