Did you know that there is no official source for case counts broken out by age AND state? CDC reports only national data. And good luck trying to assemble this dataset from individual states. States don’t use the same age cut points!

Did you know that the CDC doesn’t use its own data on numbers of cases by county? It uses data from @USAFacts - an organization I had never heard of before this pandemic.

Did you know that CDC’s data on race/ethnicity is only 48.2% complete? A better source is @COVID19Tracking’s racial data tracker, the same group that produced an aggregated testing data set long before the CDC.

What does it mean that we still don’t have basic summary statistics this many months in? Nonprofit groups cannot compel states to produce standardized data, so they make the most of what they have. But it’s long past time for the federal government to step up here.
