Somewhere between the 5th and 6th century, a fated young boy finds a sword firmly planted into a stone, with a well-established notion that whosoever pulls it out will become king. That young boy was Arthur Pendragon but my main interest is in the man called Merlin.
Needless to say a young Arthur became King Arthur after successfully pulling Excalibur from the stone that fated day, when countless others had failed to do so. All this was orchestrated by Merlin however, a powerful magician, others will even dare call him the greatest wizard.
Merlin served as Arthur's advisor and mentor until his untimely demise. Arthur will later go to fight in the legendary Battle of Camlann where he died fighting Mordred, who was his son borne out of incest with his half-sister when they unwittingly slept with each other one night;
but I digress.
Merlin's known demise is said to been at the hands of a woman, Vivien, who he had fallen for. It is said that Merlin would cook for her and even do her laundry. Though she was loved wholeheartedly, Vivien's real goal was to have Merlin teach all he knew about magic.
Of course, 'love is blind' and 'women will show you' are directly proportional so after teaching her all he knew, Vivien orchestrates a plan where she heads out into the mountains with Merlin and he is crushed and buried by an avalanche of mountain rocks.
He is believed to have died, but did he really though? The greatest wizard at the time? Slain by rocks? Let's fast forward.
Circa 11 centuries after the reign of Arthur, a 40 year old man serves as an advisor and chief priest/enchanter to a certain king. Looks familiar? A little right? Hold on.
The man is called Kwame Frimpon Anokye, popularly known as Okomfo Anokye. The king? Ruler of the Ashanti empire, Osei Tutu I.
The year is 1695, Okomfo Anokye plants a sword in the ground which no one has been able to remove. Circa 22 years later, this man vanishes.
