I’ve noticed more and more #BAMEed Black, Asian, or Minority Ethnic educators tweeting about race and racism. I also notice that they seem to lose followers, or lack engagement. Don’t let this DIVIDE us. Let these challenges connect us, bring us together and unite us for change.
We have created @BAMEedNetwork NOT just for #BAMEed but for everybody. For us all to work together to make a change. Check out the resources and info at http://BAMEednetwork.com  educate yourself, share with others. Be active in change.
*REMEMBER* to a #BAMEed you, as a non BAME educator speaking up is the first step, then taking actions is the next step. It’s like Men supporting #WomenED in seeking gender equality or “straight” people supporting #LGBTEd - we can all make a difference.
So if you as non #BAMEed see something and want to support and engage do so. Avoid language like, “in my experience” or “I know many BAME educators” or that you are aware because you “teach lots of BAME students.” Ask questions, but seek answers on your own too.
Some would argue those that chose to unfollow are not the people we need to speak to, maybe, but they are the people we need to change their minds from what they currently believe to what they should think. It’s hard I know. But be persistent with your drive for change.
Like with anything, we will all do it differently, calling out, calling in, kindness, anger, tweets, blogs and so on. We are working on @BAMEedNetwork to make a difference. Hopefully you will join us. #BAMEed
