Shit wouldn't have escalated like this today if MPD hadn't escalated it last night for no goddamn reason.
Well, also if they didn't repeatedly murder people...
Everyone was already on edge from being inside and away from others and knew it was a volatile situation before they showed up because there were people unsure if they felt safe to go. Just wide-scale de-escalation failure.
If MPD were so concerned about protecting property, they wouldn't have worked people up into a frenzy that resulted in them countering by throwing stuff.
Once people they ratcheted up what less-lethal rounds they were using, people were gonna throw heavier stuff and windows were gonna be broken. They lost control. A wide, wide scale failure. Chief should resign for this.
People are (justifiably) furious and just lashing out. Only one side of the equation is supposed to be trained at de-escalation. Shit that wasn't even MPD got wrecked because MPD worked people up into a frenzy and then basically pushed them into retail and+
Because MPD basically sent a tornado of fury onto businesses now a few people are piggybacking on this and looting.
And the ONLY aspect of that I particularly care about right now are the employees who are going to have to clean this up because MPD couldn't de-escalate what they escalated. Those Target and Liquor Store employees were already getting slammed.
People were getting hit in the head with rubber bullets. That's certain not gonna calm anyone down. All the protestors who were de-escalating amongst themselves are just gonna be like "fuck it."
Also, as others have said. I assure you if Jacob Frey had just shown up, shit wouldn't have gotten remotely that bad. Again, there was a whole workday before the protest. That's more than enough time to come up with a plan to have the mayor secure there.
Again, EVERYONE knew exactly what MPD was gonna do and roughly how they were gonna do it. Otherwise, why would the mayor stay home?
Trust me, if a few protestors got out of pocket and the police weren't escalating. Other protestors tend to be pretty good at shutting that down.
Nothing I'm saying here is revolutionary and requires some sort of strategic insight. We've all seen protests turn out like this AND protests/vigils that ended peacefully with everyone going home safely with no property damage.
We are in a pandemic and that area has a lot of people who rely on that entire retail center for essentials and because MPD truly doesn't give a shit about the community it is in, they basically let a neighborhood get destroyed when they didn't need to. Great job. Resign, Chief
Like if you read the thread it is very clear that im not like "Yay, looting." I'm not gonna play your whataboutism games when I am discussing the absolutely awful leadership that led to a worse case scenario outcome.
A man was murderered during a time where his loved ones aren't even allowed to grieve properly and my city is burning and NONE OF THIS HAD TO HAPPEN and could've been stopped by the people who are paid to provide protection.
So FUCK ALL THE WAY OFF if you are focusing on looting
There are a lot of vulnerable people in that area who shop at all those places and live in that community. MPD, had they not escalated, could've relied on the community of protestors to check themselves. Instead, the endangered the entire community.
I'm muting this thread. My ears/sinuses are as furious as my heart and city are and I need to lie down.
