Motivation vs. Discipline (a thread)

If you struggle to put in the work towards that thing you want

If you keep falling off the wagon and losing your progress

You might think you're "unmotivated"

It's not a lack of motivation, it's a lack of discipline

(1/7)
Motivation is your desire to take an action

Do you want to become a healthier person?

Then you're motivated to take the actions needed to achieve that

For example, you're motivated to eat better and exercise more

(2/7)
Motivation alone isn't enough

You can be motivated but still make poor decisions

A motivating tweet, quote, or image may get you fired up

You go for a run or eat a salad

But that burst of motivation fades and you go back to making the same mistakes

(3/7)
You know you should be making better choices

You still make poor decisions

You beat yourself up for them

You call yourself "unmotivated"

But you're wrong...

(4/7)
You're not unmotivated

You're undisciplined

You can't succeed with high motivation and low discipline

You can succeed with high discipline and low motivation

Why?

(5/7)
Discipline has you making good decisions even when you don't feel like it

Discipline has you reaching for the salad instead of the candy

Discipline has you putting on your running shoes at 6:30am

Discipline has you saying "no" to another beer
