As years go by, more and more young people will become increasingly depressed and trapped in debt as a country moves from a developing to a developed status, a thread.
Capitalism runs on the premise of everyone for himself. There is no limit on the amount of wealth one can amass. This wealth is finite and comes from the ability to own tools of production, mostly. Forget the pastors and motivation speakers
Remember, the population keeps increasing but the few who had money back then will be hoarding these resources and will lease them back to you in exchange for your labor, to even make them richer. The resources owned by local people will be strained and very expensive
Now, the young man will find himself in a conundrum. You have a Kshs 500k a year job before expenses, land costs 4m way outside the city with no amenities, building a house costs an equivalent

You realize that before you start, you're defeated. 10yr savings =only 5m
That's assuming the value of money is constant. The employers also know this so they give you a loan so that you can't move out of your job or start something. You realize you have a family at this point and you can't just quit
Only way out would be a miracle. You start something and create a means of production, innovate some idea or be an entrepreneur ; a field where many restrictions favor established firms
So you find many young people working hard, everyday, long hours but have nothing to show. They are sold a dream in school only to face a harsh reality

They can't come to terms. You got a B+ and did econ stats now you're getting 50k a month in Nairobi. This wasn't your dream
Most try Drugs and other ways to escape this bill to bill life. Say you earn 50k, what's the most you can save after you take out recurrent expenditure? Here's a quick breakdown I did

You get like 14k. Can you save your way out of rental housing and get a car and a house? No
So, even if your salary is added its done at a time you have a family, so you end up using it all up on education and other family things. You literally work long nights etc to prepare your kids to do the same exact thing you're doing. Labor for those with means of production
In addition to that, capitalism has killed the extended family that operated under socialism where you might pool resources and help create your means of production

Hello, isn't that how shares work?

Now you have your 500k savings but there's nothing meaningful it can do alone
Those with extended families eg Muslim and hindi always pool resources and survive. But the rest we have been isolated it's just nuclear family. You can't even find someone to talk to about your problems, you have to pay a therapist. Everything has a price
Young people won't even have a garden to plant vegetables. You will have to work for the capitalist to buy them from the supermarket, whose supply chain is from other capitalists and is, pawns working to beat student debt, mortgage, insurance etc
Just watch this space. The more the therapists you see, the more deteriorating mental health is and its a myriad of factors it can't be attributed to a single factor. Everything has been monetized and has an owner including this tweet I'm sending now. Watch out.
