If you are not thinking beyond the walls of your business then there is no way you'll be able to adapt. Bringing guests in will be the smallest revenue stream, for a long time, so figure out ways to get out.
Delivery is a massively under tapped market. Independent restaurants should start reaching out to other restaurants to create delivery co-ops. Limiting the amount of delivery over feeling the need to feed everyone is key.
Understanding the numbers that it will take to scope and scale those ideas without referring to previous numbers before all this. You are starting from scratch.
Understanding that, as a whole concept, nobody is there to help you out unless it's your employees, guests, and that's about it.
Pushing your messaging of thoughts to a wide an audience is possible. Being quiet and letting others have the stage? No. Take it back. Watching others get credit for your work? No. Take it back.
Talk to your guests, all of them. Open it up to find out what it is they really want. You'll find that it's not just food and see that as an opportunity to provide that. Can't do it? Learn. They'll appreciate you for it more.
There are so many opportunities out there. Beating the dead horse and mourning an industry that was built on trash isn't something to keep looking back to. Pave over it, build, and move forward. New leaders, voices, and points of view are required. The reset button has been hit.
I love plants. Sounds dumb but I started thinking of people being at home and they just want something to comfort them. I see all these screen grabs of animal crossing. People just want to dial in comfort. How can I bring them that? We'll be selling plants soon...
We'll be launching an animal crossing menu soon. Lots of turnips. I haven't even played the game. I really want to but I just don't have the time so I live through their screenshots
I think of a lot of ideas because they are things I would rather be doing instead of being at the restaurant 7 days a week. I ask my employees all the time. Every day. What do you want to see? What should we do?
It's not about me. I drive it but it's not about me. It can't be perfect. People don't want perfect. They want something. That something can be anything and the majority of time it's acknowledgement. They realize you can pay attention, adapt, and deliver. That's hospitality.
The parts, pieces, and standards of restaurants has been dead for a long time. There are few that really understand how to engage with guests and not treat the place like a trough for animals. Food is larger than restaurants. People above that. Don't understand? Get out.
