Key points from Simon Bridges (speech agreed in advance to be bad):

- Kiwis have done a great job.
- Credit to government for wage subsidy.
- The financial sacrifices have tough.
- Success means now fixing the economy.
- Unemployment is going to be bad.
- Same urgency needs to be given to restoring prosperity as was given to the lock down.

- Education, health and jobs should be focused on like a laser.

- Much of the budget is praiseworthy but too much outside those priorities for pre-COVID priorities.
- Spending is needed but we still have to be disciplined about debt.

- There is too much reliance in slush funds in the budget, for which this government does not have a good track record.

- The spending is needed but we only get one chance at it. A lack of focus is a worry.
- An outcome of unfocused spending will be taxes higher than necessary, which will not help things in the longer term.

- Simplicity and elegance is better than complexity and complication.

- Kiwibuild and light rail are worrying illustrations of the govt's ability to deliver.
- National has demonstrated it is competent in a crisis and an ability to actually deliver what it promises.

- For eg, UFB, RONS, Waterview Tunnel, City Rail Link and implementation of innovation incentives.

- Person for person, National has a more competent and proven team.
- National has 5 key point / pledge card type plan.

- Don't forget that future generations have to repay what we borrow now - so let's spend wisely.
