Reading Amazon reviews of first aid products (specifically skin repair) and crossindexing score, date and country of origin to see when FDA quietly banned stuff that works. Packaging doesn't change but you can see the spikes in 1 star reviews.
So many of these regulatory compromises. Ban something that works, allow corporations to substitute something useless in the same bottle. And life gets a little bit worse. The canonical example is pseudoephedrine changing to phenylephrine in OTC cold and allergy meds.
Oral phenylephrine is completely useless, and everyone in the industry knows it. It's fraud to sell it. But it solved a political problem.

Same thing for so many other products. Dishwasher soap, laundry detergent. Asthma inhalers. For our protection.
