Today I shared testimony with the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, HHS, & Education on the #COVID19 response. I told the committee what I’ve been saying here. We are in a critical moment in this fight. 1/ @AppropsDems @HouseAppropsGOP https://appropriations.house.gov/events/hearings/covid-19-response
We risk complacency in accepting the preventable deaths of 2,000 Americans each day. We risk complacency in accepting that healthcare workers do not have what they need to do their jobs safely. 2/
We risk complacency in recognizing that without continued vigilance, we will again create the conditions that led to us being the worst-affected country in the world. 3/
We have made important progress towards combatting the COVID-19 pandemic. But, additional capacities in diagnostic testing, contact tracing, and the healthcare system will be required to successfully combat the virus in the weeks, months and years to come. 4/
We must prioritize that work now so that we can minimize future public health and economic consequences of this pandemic. We still have an opportunity to reclaim control. As I said in a previous thread, we have done hard things before. We can do this, too. 5/5
