The devil’s in the detail in this Telegraph story: tests “offered”, people “able to see if they are eligible to apply”. Spoken to key workers in councils and care homes who’ve been offered tests 60 miles away, and only if they have certain symptoms
And for the majority of people unable to drive, with epilepsy, visual impairments, or no car/licence, they’ve not been offered mobile testing. The government say they’re only “piloting” that. Govt will argue they’ve created capacity but there isn’t demand/uptake for the tests.
On testing for people who can’t drive, the DHSC say home and mobile testing will only be brought in “if necessary and effective”.
“Able to see if they are eligible to apply” is an incredible sentence, cramming so many hurdles and caveats into so few words.
