Ok people who say things like "my cats would rather have an adventurous life than a boring one even if they're at risk!" are projecting human emotions onto non-human animals and using their own perceptions to justify putting animals they are responsible for in serious danger
Cats are like toddlers--they don't have the sort of forethought and impulse control necessary for making appropriate decisions about their own well-being. If you hold open a door for a toddler they'll run out into a busy street because YOLO. Same for cats.
Your cat would rather lick up antifreeze. Your cat would rather jump into a clothes dryer while it's on. Your cat would rather sleep in the wheel well of a truck. Your cat would rather eat garbage. Your cat would rather climb up on your roof and then fall off.

DON'T LET THEM
Cats and dogs aren't people they are cats and dogs. The motivations and yearnings you ascribe to them aren't appropriate ways of deciding how to best care for them. Your cat wants to go outside but your cat also wants to eat plastic. Both are bad.
Your cat has no perception of "leading a dull boring life" because your cat is a creature of impulse. Your cat is excited about an open door but your cat is also excited about a tumbleweed of dust wafting across the floor. Your cat can be fulfilled inside if you make the effort
Stop being selfish. Stop believing your own weird cat guilt that doesn't reflect reality is justification for letting your cat not only face serious harm/death but also participate in destroying your local ecosystem. Stop projecting. Do what's right, not what feels gratifying
