I know this isn't the conventional wisdom on the topic, but I think the evidence suggests China's lobster tariffs had only a modest impact.

There is (usually) lots of demand in North America for lobster ...
And in 2019, even with fewer exports to China, U.S. lobsters were in short supply because of a small harvest.

Fortunately, the U.S. had a back up source of lobster supply just to the North. Imports from Canada surged last year
