I'm a fan of getting #feedback and of developing #metacognition for many reasons. A favorite reason - and part of the #cognitivebias realm - is the Dunning-Kruger effect.
In brief, we're not good at judging our own abilities - those who lack ability in a certain area tend to _over_estimate their abilities/knowledge & those who have quite a lot of expertise in an area tend to _under_estimate their abilities relative to others. #cognitivebias
This has significant implications for #teaching & #instructionaldesign :)
One implication - provide more opportunities for feedback & for practicing metacognitive skills in your courses. Your students will benefit.

The other? Underestimating our expert abilities relative to others means we tend to design & teach our courses for a more advanced knowledge level than is appropriate for the learners we have.
