Fellow immunocompromised people on IV medications for managing autoimmune diseases! My DMs are opened and I can talk you through what my doctor said could happen if we contract the virus. There is hope! đź’ś
And if you have a Remicade infusion coming up, let’s talk strategies to limit infection risk.
Basically, listen to your doctor about staying on your medication. Don’t flare. Listen to your doctor. And to make you feel less awful taking your immunosuppressive medicine, though we are in a higher risk group, our immune suppression MIGHT be the thing that saves us.
Take your medicine. Take precautions. Take your doctor’s advice. Take solace in the fact that you might be preventing a cytokine storm. It could be ok. Hope is not lost. Love and solidarity.
The gist: It’s a catch 22 but not a death sentence. Our immunosuppressants put us in a higher risk group, but those very drugs could stop the immune response that is killing otherwise healthy COVID patients. Doctors are even considering our drugs as potential therapies for COVID.
Ok my baby is awake but I hope this helped and may god have mercy on our souls!
