I tweet about the whole "eat bugs" thing a lot and a vegetarian asked me what the difference was between bugs and cows or pigs that isn't just arbitrary and cultural. And he's actually totally correct. But being gross is not why it bothers me. 1/6

Jello is made with boiled byproducts of the meat industry. That's gross but nobody cares. You can process stuff into non gross forms. It bothers me because of the trend of asking the poor to sacrifice their meager pleasures and never ever focusing on the upper echelon. 2/6
Rich people want to continue flying their private jet to Tokyo to eat at their favorite wagyu place without feeling guilty about the planet, so they gotta figure out how the Morlocks can tighten their carbon belts even further. It's a modern day Poor Man's Ewe. 3/6
I don't like Snowpiercer, but it gets this thing super right, and it's funny that a movie that's a cartoony allegory showing the poor eating ground up roaches so the rich can continue enjoying fancy food is turning into an actual thing that is trying to be thrust upon us. 4/6
This doesn't just happen with bugs. Just pay attention to how often the changes required to "save the planet" are pedestrian things that regular people do and never the super ostentatious Godzilla-carbon-footprint practices of the upper echelons. 5/6 https://twitter.com/neontaster/status/1168521040781283328
Anyway, I'm tackling it in a cutesy way because it's still funny to me that this is their Alamo when stuff like artificially-cultivated meat is far more likely to be the answer to ecological sustainability. Also your mom. 6/6 https://twitter.com/neontaster/status/1196071987543728129
The Wool Omnibus by Hugh Howey does a similar concept but way way better so it always felt like a lamer version of that to me.
