A column from from @colbycosh about the possibility of an Alberta Pension Plan. He worries most about governance of investing--would a province-controlled fund be tempted to invest with political / non-financial motives? #Echobox=1573643916">https://nationalpost.com/opinion/colby-cosh-alberta-maddened-with-despair-looks-at-firewall-ii-wexit-boogaloo?utm_term=Autofeed&utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Twitter #Echobox=1573643916">https://nationalpost.com/opinion/c...
I& #39;d like to challenge his last sentence though.

@colbycosh finishes by wondering whether the CPPIB is more trustworthy than an AB fund:

"Assuming, that is, that you trust the Canada Pension Plan board to go on operating at arm’s length from the Canadian cabinet …"
It& #39;s not a "who do ya trust" choice between folks in Edmonton vs Toronto for managing pensions.

There are vital *structural* differences.

The CPPIB& #39;s investment policy can *only* be changed with support of 2/3rd of provinces with 2/3rd of population.

*Not* whim of fed cabinet.
