the comments on the new Nancy continue to be aghast at how much the strip has changed, but look at any Nancy Classics strip, currently running ones from 1955, it's the Exact Same Strip as the current incarnation.

The commenters on the new Nancy are obviously missing the Guy Gilchrist incarnation, which, when it ended early this year, was, well, uh, this one's from June of last year.
That's Sluggo singing a song popularised in the 60s by a man who died in 1995.

Which, I mean, that's fine -- I think if Star Trek went back to TNG-style storytelling after Discovery, I'd probably bow back out again -- but like. Is there even a joke there?? Who is the target audience for this, besides septuagenarians??
Guy Gilchrist's Nancy, as it existed in the late 2010s, was a bad strip that served the needs of an audience that I can only assume read it to distract themselves from painful memories of the 1860s or some other stupid decade.
I don't really have a point here, I guess.
Compare and contrast:
1. Nancy, by Ernie Bushmiller, of March 22, 195x (can't make it out on the copyright notice)
2. Nancy, by Guy Gilchrist, of March 23, 2017.
3. Nancy, by Olivia Jaimes, of April 20, 2018.

Can you even IMAGINE the Nancy from the 50s or from today singing a song from 1983 on the way to school, she'd sooner DIE.
...I'll grant you that the one from the 50s singing a song from 1983 introduces an additional problem.

Anyway, Ernie Bushmiller and Olivia Jaimes rule, Guy Gilchrist sucks, this concludes my poorly planned out 1am TED talk.
You could run this one TODAY. https://www.gocomics.com/nancy-classics/2015/04/06
