Forgive me, I don't usually tweet much on these topics but I found it necessary to talk about preserving spirituality during a girl's menstrual cycle in the holy month of Ramadan since it IS a taboo topic that's not discussed much and leaves a lot of us confused unfortunately.
We all know that during the menstrual cycle, a girl can neither fast nor pray because she is in a state of impurity that prevents her from performing such acts of worship. For many, this is a long-awaited, relieving break. For others, it is a dreadful week of dead spirituality.
We can all agree that there is no act of worship like prayer, no amount of duaa reading or dhikr can compare to the spiritual benefits of standing in front of your Lord in complete discipline and humility. It is crucial for survival of the soul…
Girls not being able to pray for a whole week (even more sometimes) notice that this kills their spirituality completely, ESPECIALLY if spiritual growth is something they've been working on. We notice this right after we're done & back to our prayers, they're just… not the same
The secret to preserving your spirituality during your menstrual cycle is to still sit in worship during the time of salat. It was never about the physical act of salat as much as it was disciplining yourself to give time to worship your Lord five times a day.
Sayyed Ali Khamenei provides a beautiful recommendation for menstruating women; to clean oneself, perform wudhu' and sit in worship during the time of prayer. That way, the soul doesn't feel so detached!!!
If you feel too weak to get up during the time of Fajr, that's fine (although highly recommended) but at least make the effort to give time to Allah (swt) during Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib and Isha prayers.
Girls, it's all about the discipline of the self and sticking to worshipping at fixed times. That's how the soul remains alive and spirituality is preserved, don't let yourself go ESPECIALLY if you've been working on your spiritual growth for a while. It's still possible ❤️
