HOW ONE DIRECTION CHANGED THE PHILIPPINES AND ITS HISTORY FOREVER: a thread
So, remember, back in April 17, 2014, One Direction Philippines posted this statement on their twitter and facebook page? They told the fans to simply “save up”. A lot of fans started to speculate that there will be a concert, as a part of their WWA tour.
On April 21, 2014, rumors started to spread out on twitter that a One Direction Concert was going to happen in the Philippines, although there was no evidence straight from the boys that time.
The next day, April 22, 2014: One Direction Philippines made a statement regarding these rumors. They couldn’t confirm nor deny of what’s happening, because they fear that MMI will lose their trust on them. However, the rumors were getting even stronger.
MAY 3, 2014: Four days before the original date to drop the big announcement, Ms. Rhiza Pascua announced that the announcement will be moved to May 19. The reasons are still unknown.
MAY 9, 2014: A video, coming from One Direction themselves, saying that they will come to Manila SUPPOSEDLY on March 21, 2015, has been leaked. Therefore, the rumors were unofficially confirmed by the boys.
MAY 10, 2014: A day after the video was leaked, small websites started to report about the unofficial confirmation of the One Direction Concert in the Philippines. The rumors were as strong as ever.
FROM MAY 11-18, 2014: A photo of the boys, wearing the jerseys of the popular Basketball team Gilas Pilipinas, was leaked. This adds to the evidences that One Direction will have a concert in the Philippines. This was the peak of the rumors spreading around the country.
MAY 19, 2014: One Direction Philippines, together with MMI LIVE and Ovation Productions, OFFICIALLY announces and confirms that One Direction will have a concert in the PH, as a part of their new tour, named: On The Road Again.
One Direction Philippines also added that there will be a launch party for the tickets on May 23, 2014.
Everyone went wild when the news came out. ABS-CBN, GMA7, TV5, all major newspapers reported that One Direction is officially going to the Philippines. But, when the ticket prices came out, a lot of fans disagreed that the tickets should be sold at May 23 and be moved instead.
MAY 22, 2014: Just a day before the ticket selling, fans started to line up in hopes to get a ticket to see 1D. This became trending in all social media platforms. There were no other fandoms that were being reported just for a ticket selling.
MAY 23, 2014: The Launch Party/Ticket Selling. I went here personally. It was such a long line. But eventually, I got tickets. I saw a lot of fans cry in the VIP section because the tickets sold out in under 30 minutes. Third photo belongs to me. +
Yes, I fangirled and fangirled like as if One Direction was already there, yet, it was just the ticket selling. It was really crazy, yet memorable.
This ultimately became trending. ABS-CBN, and GMA7 made a report ON THIS. Did you see the same thing happen but with different artists? I don’t think so.

For me, 1D is the only group, whose fandom gets reported JUST FOR TICKETS.
Ovation Productions decided that if Day 1 tickets are SOLD OUT, they will ask for a second show. And a second show was agreed.
PART TWO: the Zouis Weed issue (420 bLAZE IT)
ft. Lourd De Veyra, Anti-Drugs Advocate, and CBCP
JUNE 1-2, 2014: Days after the Zouis weed issue came out, “ANTI-DRUGS ADVOCATE: Laban ng Pamilyang Pilipino”, being petty, wants the boys banned, as in ALL OF THEM. Uhhhh,,, the other three don’t smoke weed! Sometimes, I just 🤦🏻‍♀️ @ the Philippine Government
Of course, the god of hosting, Lourd De Veyra had to come in, spreading hate comments about the boys on Twitter. Also, the bashers also have to come in (including my own family 🤦🏻‍♀️)
And to add that, one CBCP Official, Fr. Conegundo Garganta, had to come in and say “I WANT ONE DIRECTION BANNED FROM THE PH! THEY’RE BAD INFLUENCES! THEY’RE LEADING THEM TO THE WRONG DIRECTION!” No, just no. You notice their wrong behavior, but not what they do for the good? Bye
Of course, the 1D fandom, already known for being intimidating yet friendly, fought against the government, the Catholic Church and the Anti-Drugs Advocate like savages. The fandom attacked Lourd until he was actually hurt by one of the fan’s comments. +
a representation of the war between the PH 1D fandom vs. the PH gov’t, CBCP, Anti-Drugs Advocate and Lourd de Veyra
Ultimately, we won against them.
However, the government said that Louis and Zayn have to pay a fine of PHP 200,000 for that issue. Also, they had to pay an additional PHP 20,000 processing fee. Man, the Philippine Government, are they THAT desperate to get filthy rich?
PART 3: Whaaaaaat? One Direction is in the Philippines already??? TEKA DI PA AKO READY AAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAJAHAAJAJAKSHAJAKAK
MARCH 20, 2015: The boys tweet (except for Louis) that they are all excited to go to Manila! Harry being the first one, then Niall, then Liam.
MARCH 20, 2015: EVERYONE IS EXCITED! EVERYONE HAS NO CHILL! Thus, #NOCHILLPHILIPPINES was the most trending tag during One Direction’s stay in Manila.
Meanwhile, ALL MEDIA CHANNELS ARE SHOOK AND NOT READY FOR THE KING’S ARRIVAL TOMORROW, MARCH 21! ABS-CBN even reported about it!!
Once again, the 1D fandom took the whole Philippines by storm, and made everyone excited! Fans, non-fans alike, one thing is for sure: THEY ARE EXCITED TO SEE ONE DIRECTION ON MARCH 21, AND 22, 2015.
On a funnier news: When Niall said “it’s gonna be a cracker!”, the PH 1D fandom, took it, quite literally. They broke the airport’s floor! 🤣🤣
MARCH 21, 2015: IT WAS THE DAY. The day the whole nation’s been waiting for. One Direction themselves, are arriving to the Philippines and perform, for the first time.
Let me tell you what happened from my point of view (in some of the next tweets) since I’ve been there in person 😉 Also, it was my first concert!
MARCH 21, 2015; 12:00NN: we were already going to the venue! I had so much energy in me that I didn’t need to eat or drink water that much as I usually do! One Direction was in my veins.
When we arrived on the venue, let me tell you that it was PACKED! And full of directioners! I can see that everyone is really excited, and full of energy!!
MARCH 21, 2015; 2:00PM: Meanwhile, THE KINGS THEMSELVES HAVE ARRIVED. Sadly, it was only Harry and Niall who were captured. (coincidentally, they were also the same people who returns to the PH for their solo tours HAHAHAHAHAHAHA)
ALSO, NEVER FORGET:
“Where are we going today, Mark?”
“Today, we’re in Manila, which has a population of 1.6 million, which is the second largest population in the Philippines!”

MARCH 21, 2015; 3:00-6:30PM:
Just waiting.... also, I met @wonnderection !!! Concert buddies ❣️❣️
MARCH 21, 2015; 6:30PM: WE FINALLY GOT IN!!! After waiting for 5 hours, and not eating that much, I was still full of energy.
MARCH 21, 2015; 7:00PM: DJ KC IS IN THE HOUUUUUUSE!!!!
MARCH 21, 2015; 8:42 PM: THE LEGENDS HAVE ARRIVED.
Note: all my concert footage is in my old phone and I can’t access it. This is the best i’ve got.
MARCH 21, 2015; SOMEWHERE AROUND 9:00PM - 10:30PM: A SMALL PORTION OF LIAM’S HYPE SPEECH!!
MARCH 21, 2015; BETTER THAN WORDS: i honestly went here for this. niall’s crotch grab. that’s it. JK THIS IS ONE OF THE THINGS THAT I’VE WAITED SHEBWJWBSJWNSKA SKA AND I WAS SATISFIED
MARCH 21, 2015; BEST SONG EVER: the last song. I can’t believe that two hours would feel like forever. It was the best concert that I’ve ever had, walang aangal dito.
I won’t post about day 2 since I didn’t go to day 2 :—( i was suffering from PCD heavily that time :(
PART FOUR (album pun intended): One Direction’s gone too soon? PLEASE!!! COME BACK!!!
MARCH 21, 2015: One reporter from GMA7 was live just outside of the concert grounds, with #TEAMLABAS. The emotions were so real, that you can see the in the reporter’s eyes: that she’s excited for the concert.
MARCH 22, 2015: A report was also made, but it was on the second day. The feelings and emotions there were as intense as the first day.
MARCH 23, 2015: ABS-CBN was SO shook that it decided to report on what happened during the weekend (aka 1D asf):
MARCH 21, 2015: OF COURSE, Inquirer didn’t miss the news:
And now, the question: How did One Direction change the Philippines and the History?
1.) The last time something similar happened to this, was last July 3-5, 1966, when The Beatles came here for a concert. The difference was, the 1D fandom was stronger and actually fought against the people in power in order for their idols to come through. +
If Ringo Starr hated the Philippines because of how the nation used to treat them back then, then One Direction ABSOLUTELY love Manila. They love the Philippines so much, Harry came back for a tour (although he was dissapointed bc of the LOCALS), and Niall’s also coming back.
2.) I have a feeling that the people that the 1D fandom fought got eventually scared and respected what we stood for.
3.) The One Direction fandom was the ONLY fandom which was reported because of what we did during the ticket selling (literally waiting a day, sleeping at the MOA Arena, etc.)
There was NO OTHER FANDOM that was reported something similar to what we did.
4.) For 2 days aka 48 hours of the time that One Direction was here, the whole nation stopped what they were doing, and became 1D stans, even though it was just a short time.
5.) MMI LIVE learned how to PROPERLY manage ticket sales. Ever since the 1D ticket selling, they’ve learned on how to perfect their ways of selling.
6.) After One Direction’s impact here in the Philippines, the country was never the same again.
7.) Up until today, the major local media channels are still 1D asf, even though it was much more controlled since March 2015. When Harry was recently here, they had no chill, but they showed it in a professional way.
8.) #NOCHILLPHILIPPINES was officially the hashtag of OTRAMNL, whenever it was used, it’s purpose is always for OTRA MNL.
9.) Ever since the concerts happened, there are now anniversaries every year, every March 21 and 22.
10.) This was just not any concert, but this was THE concert. This, for me (not being biased, I watched small concerts after this one), was the most memorable concert in the history of the Philippines.
11.) The whole thing (from the ticket selling, to the drug issue, to the concert itself) is the most memorable concert in the history of the Philippines.
12.) Last but not the least, OTRAMNL left a HUGE memory for everyone, fans and non-fans alike. OTRAMNL, was the best concert ever. Nothing could beat it. From the issues, to the concert itself, each part of it was memorable.
END OF THREAD.
EXTRA PART: A 1D World in Asia??? BUT IN THE PHILIPPINES????
(You thought I forgot about this???? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA NOPE)
DECEMBER 20, 2014: 1D World, a famously known pop-up store dedicated to One Direction, has opened its doors to accomodate Filipino fans.
The store was open from December 2014 to March 2015, roughly over 4 months. This was something given by Ms. Rhiza Pascua so that the fans can meet there. It was also given as some sort of special gift to maximize the fans’ time during the period of waiting before the concert.
I actually also went here, back in Feburary 2015. It was a small store, bUT IT WAS FULL OF ONE DIRECTION MERCH! It was my heaven. I was really happy that I went there during it’s limited stay. The merchandise were expensive though. My aunt bought a swallow necklace :—)
