I've been getting a bunch of questions about what to eat before starting the fast in Ramadan (Suhoor), so I thought I'd make a quick thread with what's worked for me in the past.

If you have special dietary needs, you can adjust as needed obviously :)
I personally find it really difficult to eat proper food so early in the morning, so smoothies are my best friend.

There are tons of recipes out there, and you can really play around to see what works for you.
This is one I like:

Soak some dried figs in milk the night before.
Blend with some dates, chia seeds, protein powder if you want, and fruits of your choice (I like putting bananas, strawberries, mangoes, berries, etc. but it's totally up to you).
Break your fast with some dates, water, and some warm soup.

It’ll keep you from overeating and being bloated and low on energy throughout the day.

During the night, at Iftar & Suhoor, eat lots of watermelon, cantaloupe, cucumbers, etc. fruits high in water to keep you hydrated.
And I know our food pyramid basically looks like a samosa for the whole month, but try to avoid eating too much fried food 😬 Try baking the samosas instead, they’re not bad that way.

Same thing goes for too much sweet stuff. Arabs, I’m looking at you and all your desserts!
In my experience, I've found that avoiding carbs in Suhoor helps avoid a sugar crash during the day, but rolled or whole grain oats are slow digesting and high in fiber so they usually work.

For Desis and Arabs, haleem or jareesh is awesome (as long as it’s not too spicy).
I also like doing eggs in the morning, especially omelettes with lots of veggies, but skip the toast.

And of course, drink lots of water but try not too drink too much at once. Space it out a little to properly hydrate yourself.
Please keep in mind I’m not a certified nutritionist or anything. These are just some things that have worked for me and made it easier alhamdulillah.

If anyone else has any tips or suggestions that help them, please do share!
may Allah make it easy for all of us to fast during this blessed month and forgive our sins through our fasts & prayers ✨🌙
