More things I've learnt from submitting more- if you're as bad as me at missing deadlines, it's helpful to know which journals are always open to submissions. Here is a thread of the ones I know that are also free to submit to, feel free to let me know more:

@CabinetOfHeed takes poetry, flash fiction and short stories up to 4000 words. The submissions page says: please prevent a terrifying furniture based rampage
@CottonXenomorph take visual art, poetry and fiction up to 1500 words and currently want your writing manifestos
@forbookssake accept stories between 2000-6000 from self-identifying women for their weekend read
@riggwelterpress take poetry, visual art, mixed media, fiction, essays and reviews
@porridgemag take fiction and essays up to 4000 words, and poetry and also take previously published pieces
@BlanketSea take poetry, art, and creative fiction and fiction up to 2000 words from writers and artists living with chronic illness and disability, and also take previously published pieces
@monkeybicycle take stories up to 2000 words and one sentence stories
@mag_laurel take poetry, flash fiction, art, photos and short stories up to 6000 words
@OpenPenLondon take stories between 50-4000 words (from anywhere in the world)
@JellyfishReview take flash and CNF up to 1000 words, and essays up to 2000 and get back to you very quickly (and their non-acceptances are the most helpful I know)
@PendoraMag take flash up to 500 words, poetry, short fiction, essays and non-fiction
@aptmag take fiction and essays up to 2000 word for online, and longer works for print
@afterthepause take poetry, art and flash fiction (up to 1000 words)
